First is to make sure to check for the fountain’s water level. Make sure not to run the fountain dry cause it will burn out the water pump and motor. Another tip is how to avoid additional algae growth in your fountain. Slimy, greenish algae are eyesores for a beautiful water fountain and we don’t that things hanging out with art piece. Adding sea salt, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or bleach may become an aid for prevention. But if you are likely to have a pet in your home make sure they don’t drink water from the fountain, bleach and hydrogen peroxide are harmful for them. Direct sunlight may also promotes algae growth, so if you may time to time keeping your water fountain from direct sunlight that may help or better yet set your fountain on a space not directly the sunlight.

In addition, cleaning up your fountain may require more than just wiping but instead disassemble it and have each part clean thoroughly. Disassemble the water pump ‘coz it may have some algae growth on it and mineral build ups. Indoor fountains are mostly designed without splashing water feature, if your fountain do splash makes sure you check for something that interfere the running water casual flow. Just to make sure, you could also keep the surrounding area of your fountain protected with plastic or Plexiglas would be great.

For a long lasting water fountain, it’s advisable to use distilled water or fresh water as they don’t contain any chemicals that can cause damage. Water fountains are great enjoyment and relaxation companion. Its soothing water sounds and beautiful sight brings serene ambiance. Maintaining and cleaning it may sound a lot of work, which is apparently not. But whatever you do to maintain and clean your water fountain, you know it’s all worth it.
