For you to keep your water fountain operate in its optimum performance, there should always be a maintenance guidelines for you to always bear in mind and in order to keep your water fountain free flowing and to bringing out a splendid sight in your space. It is not that hard as it may sound, to maintain a water fountain is a learning experience and at the same time a fun thing to do.

First thing that you need to do is to make sure that you check the fountain’s water level. This is to make sure that the fountain will not to run dry, because it will burn out the water pump and motor. Outdoor fountains are usually exposed to direct sunlight and it should be check from time to time for it may overheat fast, then a  water refill is needed right away. Always take note that the water pump is designed to work while submerged under water. If you hear a slumping sound in your water pump that means that the water level is below its required water level of your fountain. It then needs an immediate refill to avoid damage or malfunction in your water pump.

Another thing, to avoid additional algae growth in your fountain the slimy, greenish algae are an eyesores in your beautiful water fountain and you don’t want those things hanging out with your art piece. You can avoid it by adding sea salt, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or bleach on your water fountain. But if you have a pet in your home, you have to make sure that they don’t drink water from the fountain, bleach and hydrogen peroxide can be harmful for them. Exposing your fountain in direct sunlight can also promote algae growth, it is important that if you have time, you need to keep your water fountain away from direct sunlight.

Lastly for you to have a long lasting water fountain, it’s necessary for you to use distilled water or fresh water because they don’t contain any chemicals that can cause damage in your fountain. The water fountain is great enjoyment and a relaxation companion in your home.
